Live Vehicle Data in Denmark: Our workshop report
This week Tuesday, about 40 participants from 24 companies met in Middelfart to discuss the state of live vehicle data in Denmark. Read our report here.
Organized by Frank R. Hansen, director at AUTIG, the workshop offered an outlook on a data-driven automotive industry and offered ample opportunity to discuss both the technical AND political dimension of vehicle data.
These two dimensions cannot be kept separate: Politics and technology define and constrain each other. But while political decisions are slow to evolve, it was crystal clear to all participants that the automotive industry must act now: To get a head start into a data-driven future, we must start developing viable technologies today.
In addition to Frank R. Hansen, input and introductions were offered by Erik Lundtoft, managing director at CARMUNICATION, and Krunoslav Bagaric, managing director at Topmotive/DVSE. How are live vehicle data changing business models forever? How can independent data platforms help the automotive sector to stay competitive? These were aspects discussed by Erik Lundtoft in his opening. Krunoslav Bagaric gave examples of the practical uses that vehicle data have to offer, for instance when it comes to giving an estimate for and quickly procuring required parts and services.
Live vehicle data have broad implications
The workshop was attended by participants from a broad variety of areas that are affected by access (or the lack of access) to live vehicle data:
- automotive suppliers and wholesalers
- insurances and pension funds
- independent workshops
- purchasing cooperatives
- IT and data providers
It was very interesting to learn about the solutions that Danish entrepreneurs have found to address the current transformation of their sector. They are highly aware of the challenges and are actively devising solutions for immediate challenges.
What, for instance, do you do when a client is switching to a different dongle solution? What are the opportunities to link the data coming from different dongles, so that all services requested by a client can make use of these data?
At CARMUNICATION, we believe that we need a truly open platform to design the ideal future for everyone in the automotive industry. Thanks to everyone who attended on Tuesday, August 28! Please stay in touch and keep sharing your ideas and solutions with us.
